Managed Repair

Be on the lookout for our second blog posting on Managed Repair that will be disseminated on Monday, May 2, 2016.  Managed Repair - Buyer Beware 'Do Not Drink the Kool-Aidâ„¢' by Jill Henniger Bowman, Stockham Law Group, P.A.  The blog will include real Managed Repair stories and discuss the significant risks facing Policyholders and Insurers alike from the growing use of "right to repair" Managed Repair programs in Florida.  Here's just one of the stories you will see:

Mark's Story:   Mark suffered damage to his home when a pipe broke flooding his bathroom and adjacent areas when he was not at home.  He reported the loss and the insurance company sent out its Managed Repair contractor.  No adjuster actually ever visited Mark's home.  The Managed Repair contractor prepared an estimate (with no pricing) and submitted it to the insurer; telling Mark he could only spend a little over $2 a square foot on tile and insisting Mark sign paperwork agreeing that what the contractor planned to do would restore his home to a pre-loss condition. Then, the Managed Repair contractor demanded that Mark pay thousands of dollars up front to start work.  When Mark admitted to not having the money; the Managed Repair contractor told him an "affiliate" would finance the amount for him at 18% INTEREST.  Mark declined.  Still no adjuster has come; still no repairs.
